But instead of cramming detailed information for each of the stones, I created a separate note dedicated to each stone with all the information I got from my research. In the “Purple Stones” note, I made a list of all the purple stones that caught my eye with a short description of each of them. So I created a note titled “Purple Stones” to keep track of my research. A few days ago, I had been diving deep into purple coloured stones because they look really cool. It’s a topic which is interesting to me and also a cool idea that I might revisit and explore in the future. So I created a note for it and put the appropriate tags for it in the frontmatter. For example, recently I had a very cool idea to sell canned carbonated sugarcane juice, which I’m not sure will taste good by the way. To group notes by particular topics, I use tags. Whenever I need to make a new note, I just create the file in the root. ![]() How I Take NotesĪll notes live in the root of my Obsidian vault. ![]() It also doesn’t store notes in a weird Obsidian specific format, it’s just standard Markdown! My favourite part is that it supports vim keybindings in the editor! It also features a nice command palette in which all the commands can be triggered by hotkeys as well. Obsidian has an elegant user interface with an one of the best if not the best Markdown editors out there which make the note-taking experience smooth and natural. You can link to other notes using standard Markdown syntax and also group notes by topic using sub-folders or tags. It’s just notes in Markdown, stored in a folder, called “Vault” in Obsidian. I soon realised the simplicity of Obsidian. So I had rejected the app back then.įast forward a few months and I saw Obsidian gaining popularity again on Twitter and Discord, so I decided to give it another try, only this time, I read the docs instead of videos. Almost all videos of Obsidian on YouTube were like that. As I mentioned in the intro, I had used it previously in a very complex and overwhelming setup for a week which just didn’t feel right. Obsidian is my choice of app for note taking. So here are my apps of choice and how I use them. Has to have good NLP (Natural Language Processing) for dates Also should sync across all devices Tasks app: Should be easy to quickly add tasks. Also needs to have good NLP for dates and sync with my phone’s calendar widget. In my opinion, people watch these second brain and personal knowledge management setup videos and think it’s the holy grail of productivity. I actually rejected Obsidian once because I found it really overwhelming after watching a YouTube video setting it up so extensively, reminiscent to configuring Emacs. This is not going to be one of complex setups that you often see productivity influencers making videos and courses about. This is not mentally ideal for kid hikers as they are tired at the end of the hike, but I still find it to be a better option than adding an additional mile by hiking up from the Lower Falls trailhead. It should be noted that by parking at the Upper Trailhead, you are starting at the highest elevation and hiking down, then climbing back up for the last half of the hike. We chose the latter so that we would have motivation to get our little hikers’ legs 3 miles in the snow. You have 2 options for this loop-you can take this counterclockwise and see the waterfall about 0.5 miles into the hike, or you take it clockwise and see the waterfall at the very end of the hike. It’s always better to overestimate mileage when you are hiking with kids. The loop we did is described as 2.4 miles on sites like AllTrails, but we trust our Strava GPS so I would expect closer to 3 miles for this route. If you are willing to bundle up to go on a frozen waterfall hike near Denver, I highly recommend Maxwell Falls. It’s the same amount of bundling that needs to happen to go sledding in our backyard, so we might as well create new memories, break away from the “snow day” screen time mentality, have an adventure, and get some exercise. But now that we live in the snow, it doesn’t seem like as big of a deal. There are plenty of good options near Seattle (Franklin Falls being a popular one to see frozen), but when we lived there the thought of bundling kids who would likely be too cold and cranky in order to carry them through the snow did not sound appealing. It was Bryce’s birthday so what better way to celebrate than to force our kids to hike in sub 20 degree weather? Before moving here, I never would have thought to hike to a frozen waterfall. I have been itching to do a frozen waterfall hike for the past few weeks and we finally got the window. ![]() Don’t expect a leisurely stroll - the path climbs 600 feet (183 m) to the top. While spring is around the corner, I am still trying to embrace the winter in Colorado and all it has to offer in outdoor fun. The Decode study, which was published last month as a BioRxiv preprint, looked at results from a pair of large-scale proteogenomic projects performed using either of the two platforms. Specifically, it found that roughly 36 percent of the protein-phenotype links were observed by only one of the two systems, indicating, the authors wrote, "that both techniques capture distinct aspects of protein biology." That study did not seek to assess which, if either, of the two platforms was superior but did see substantial divergence between their data. Perhaps the most notable is a project published last year in Nature Communications by a University of Cambridge-led team that included SomaLogic Chief Medical Officer Stephen Williams. SomaLogic's SomaScan measures roughly 7,000 proteins using the company's Somamer reagents, a form of aptamer.įew studies have directly compared the two platforms. Olink's Explore platform measures up to 3,000 proteins via the company's proximity extension assay technology, which uses pairs of antibodies linked to DNA strands that are brought into proximity when the antibodies bind and are then extended by a DNA polymerase, creating a new sequence that can be used as a surrogate marker for the target protein. Uppsala, Sweden-based Olink and Boulder, Colorado-based SomaLogic are the two dominant providers of affinity-based assays for high-throughput, highly multiplexed plasma proteomics. Scientists not involved with the work, as well as a SomaLogic official, have disputed the study's findings, claiming flaws in its experimental design and procedures and calling into question whether the data presented in fact demonstrates the superiority of Olink's system. NEW YORK – A recent study from Decode Genetics has sparked controversy in the world of plasma proteomics by suggesting that Olink's Explore platform outperforms SomaLogic's SomaScan system.
